
Frédéric Denecker is an EU civil servant of Belgian nationality and holds anundergraduate diploma in social sciences on ‘Understanding social change’and ‘Governing Europe’ from the Open University.Since February 1996 he has worked for the European Monitoring Centrefor Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), an EU decentralised agencybased in Lisbon, Portugal. After a year spent as assistant to the Director hejoined the Reitox and external partners unit where he currently holds thefunctions of Principal programme management officer/Coordinator ofexternal visits.This horizontal function makes him responsible for the daily managementof the different programmes the unit runs related to the Reitox network of EU national drug observatories, thecandidate and potential candidate countries to the EU and the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)countries.Before taking up his post at the EMCDDA, Frédéric served in the Research and Innovation (RTD) DirectorateGeneral, as well as in the Secretariat-General (SG) of the European Commission between September 1992and December 1995.Frédéric speaks Dutch, French, English, German and Portuguese and has a basic knowledge of Spanish.
